Why you should not use Shared Hosting to host your e-commerce business website:

From technical perspective:

1) Bad IP reputation caused by other users who use the same shared IP. Shared hosting = Shared IP address. Bad IP reputation = Bad SEO = Bad Online Marketing.

2) Bad email reputation because you share the same IP address with potential spammers. Bad Email reputation = Bad Customer Service. Your marketing emails will always go to spam inbox inside the popular email service providers like Gmail or Outlook. Perhaps you have managed to solve the email reputation issue by requesting Google and Microsoft to white-listing you from their email spam algorithm but that won’t save you for another time because other users might abuse the IP again by sending spam. You have no choice unless you can tell other users who share the same server with you to stop sending spams to other users. Can’t you ? Be friend OR enemy ?

3) Using shared hosting causes website to be slow because you share the same resources and hardware (RAM, CPU) with others. This is the meaning of ‘Shared Hosting’ = Sharing is caring.

4) Even if you think you have a very secure website in shared hosting. It is actually not. The site actually can be easily hacked if other user account within the server is compromised, hacker can hack you easily from their account.

5) E-commerce website needs a hosting that operates 24/7 and have up-time at least 97% above. Using shared hosting is a bad idea to achieve higher up-time.

6) When you use shared hosting, you need to be closed friends with all the users within your shared server because if they are too geekz enough, they can go through your server files and make modification even a small vulnerability is exposed.

7) Shared hosting is only suitable for blogging not for business.

So, what is recommended to host an e-commerce website? Answer: Use Virtual Private Server!
